Not entirely in the vicinity of Bristol, so what's it doing on this web site? It just so happens that my parents had a caravan in Trearddur Bay and I've been going up there periodically for more years that I can remember - probably around 30 years.

Anglesey lies off the N Wales coast, connected to the mainland (Bangor) by Stephenson's Britannia Bridge - formerly a rail bridge until a road deck was added above it, around 1985 - and by the old Telford suspension road bridge to Menai Bridge. Both are toll free.

Recently, the main A5 across the island to Holyhead has been made into dual carriageway, bypassing all the small towns along the old A5 and bringing relief to the heavy Ireland-bound traffic. The drive across the island is now much faster than previously.

Being sort-of diamond shaped, Anglesey offers a number of locations for just about any wind direction. Unfortunately, many of the best beaches on the SW-facing coast are pretty inaccessible to windsurfers. If you fancy a walk, check out the beaches at Newborough (Niwbwrch) and Aberffraw.

If the wind don't blow, get out the mountain or road bikes: there are a number of easy routes over the island.
