General details:I've never sailed here, but have driven round to take a look. There's a small area of sandy beach just by the S end of the runway which looks like a promising launch. There also seem to be a number of reefs judjing by the waves forming and breaking around the area. Update - June 2003: Access to this spot - and, indeed, the spot itself - may be jeopardy due to the planned runway extension in the near future. Directions to the right place:From the main road in El Matorral, turn off the most Southerly roundabout onto the dirt track heading towards the sea. Follow this around the airport perimeter until you fall into the sea. How the winds work:Prevailing wind here is cross-on from the left, typically F4-5 in the summer. Tidal conditions:
Hazards:Ear-splitting noise as planes take-off. Facilities:On the beach - zip. There's a really good and inexpensive, open-all-hours supermarket just off the main road by the most Northerly (I think) of the 2 roundabouts in the town. Well-worth a visit. They don't speak more than a couple of words of English (and why should they?), so you'll have practise a) your Spanish and b) pointing! B&B's / campsitesNada! El Matorral is a "locals" town with no tourist facilities. Pubs and eateriesThere are a couple of restaurants in El Matorral: One called something like La Iguaxa on the L as you head North. This used to be a really good, friendly place that did excellent steaks, but it changed hands a few years ago & the reports of if since have not been too good. The other is on the R - just by the town's most Southerly roundabout. Slightly more upmarket, we had a really good meal here a couple of years ago. Caleta de Fuste is about 4mins drive S from here and has endless opportunities for replenishing lost calories.
