General details:If there is any swell on the bay, this is your best bet. Tide gets very low - can be a long trek, make sure tide times are checked. Best ~1 hour before high tide. Only sailable 2hrs either side of HW. Good for beginners because it's shallow for 400-500m Water quality is a bit suspect. OK for intermediates/advanced for mainly flat water. Directions to the right place:Head to the first car park past the university and towards the Gower. Click here for what I think is the location. Sketty Lane car park is an option and well used. Also a little further east opposite Swansea RFC is another car park with access to the beach. How the winds work:NE & SW - both cross shore & flat water. W & E - good, too. S & SE - pretty much onshore. Tidal conditions:HW springs tend to occur around 07:00 - 08:00 (19:00 - 20:00). HW neaps around 13:00 (GMT). Large tidal range. Shallow beach. Sea goes out a long way leaving mud behind. Hazards:Water used to be a bit suspect but no worse than any other urban area.Should be Ok now [2006] as Swansea Bay Sewage works is on line
with UV treatment. Still a large outfall though 500m off the beach behind
County Hall. It is marked by a large bouy.
