Re: Portland Thursday 19th September

I am just gratefull that you do not have a red board - then my record would be in trouble :D

But to be honest with such a 'fast' haircut I think you will soon take my record but must get into that shallow water - it is so entertaining for us all

Re: Portland Thursday 19th September

I was locked in the Tower of London  so sailing opportunities limited  After a nice private viewing of the Crown Jewels we sat down to dinner to be told that wqe would be locked in until after 10.05pm to avoid disrution to various ceremonies so I needed some nifty gybes and record speed ...

Re: Daymer 14th 15th Sept

Hope to head to Weston tomorrow - family commitments made Daymer impossible.

Matt are you still in Turkey?

Re: WSM Sunday 1st Sept

Met office are giving 15 to 19 mph so will give it a go and hope for a sea breeze to push it further.

Nigel and Martin may also make an apperance.

Portland Bank Holiday Saturday

Undecided due to traffic considerations but as I wanted to kite low tide at about 1445 decided to go around 0915 so got away at 0940 - very late by Nomad standards. Unfortunately steam traction engines on route to the Great Dorset Steam Fayre meant a 3 hour trip :'-( On arrival no wind :'-( :'-( so ...

Re: WSM Sun 18th

Hi Graham, Sorry to have missed you - sounds like you had an enforced early exit before I arrived. As you say much better to break a boom at Weston on a westerly than at the Knapp as always an easy swim if slow with the waves gently pushing you towards the beach. On the boom issue I had 2 carbon boo...

WSM Sun 18th

A good Nomad turnout, Martin, Brian, Sue on beach duty, Justin and Lorraine, Matt and of course old boy Ian 'The Grean Meanie' H who is possibly the oldest sailor in the club - maybe even as old as his kit  I arrived late at high tide due to taking mother to lunch for her birthday so did not ...

WSM Sat 17th

A lot of South in the wind and in fact no wind at all when i arrived so had a nice cup of tea - at he rarely open beach cafe. Despite the lack of wind Justin was out on his 5.7  and Lorraine joined to be the second on the water. Then the wind started to fill in quite quickly so I went for a 10....

Re: Nomad's Away Day, Barry Sunday 11th August

Very funny to be back on a windsurfer for the first time since last September and only the third time in 2 years. lack of practice and chop made for poor gybes - either have to sail more or give up :???: Great to be on the water with so many Nomads though and sun 8) A big shout out to Jim at Puravid...

Re: Weston - Sat 03 Aug

As per Graham - Only an hour on Saturday before the rain killed the wind leaving me and others walking back from the pier - only consolation being that the 'Mary Poppins' kit is light to carry :D Good until then however. Sunday started with nothing so pumped up my biggest kite and the wind filled in...

Re: WSM Sunday 28th July

I really did not think that Weston would work as it looked like the wind would arrive after the water disappeared. Shame or I would have headed to Weston. instead I went to Portland for an afternoon sail deliberatly arriving about 11.30 to find the wind very flukey and some folk packing up as a wate...

Portland 20th July

Thanks for the posting it made me go. I was uncertain until 0830 this morning and then decided to take the gamble. Well worth it sailing in a shorty is a rare treat. Kiting for me but the tide was great for windsurfing and i think i would have run a 6.0 windsurfing. Super day with wind up to 25 mph ...

Re: Newton nukes again Saturday 22nd

Went to Portland both days - Saturday was really windy and very gusty with a peak of 39.7 knots showing on the harbour wall and a recording of 32 knots on the beach. Ian H was out on his 5.2 and i was walking on the dark side on a 7.0. We had a couple of kite v windsurfer duels which ended a score d...

Re: Windsurfing around Bristol

No one sails at Severn Beach, I think an hour either side of high is the max. Weston is very popular and folk from Bristol only go South if the tide is out at Weston or they only like flat water. Remember you can only sail 2 hours either side of high on springs or max3 hours on neap tides. Onshore w...
