Thanks for all the directions advice. Yes, I have been the cross country scenic route from Grimstone. I think it takes longer than straight through Weymouth, but no doubt that depends whether it is holiday season. The part of the journey I dislike is getting through Bristol and out to Shepton Mallet...

Friday 27 Nov

Hey Matt – did you get out at WSM on Friday? Well, I made my way to Portland. It didn’t seem such a good idea when I was loading the car up early morning in the cold, dark and heavy rain. I really had to talk myself into going, but I know there is nothing worse than making the wrong decision to stay...

On the basis of a sub 10 degree forecast for WSM (and blue stars!!) I think that option is discounted for tomorrow, but thanks for the posting Matt. Hope you have a good time, and wrap up warm!! So it is still possibly Portland for me (double digit temps, and hopefully a bit of sun ), or failing tha...

Friday 27th Nov

I am half eyeing up friday for a sail - either WSM, but currently favouring portland which is looking great and a few degrees warmer than WSM.

Anyone else likely to be sailing? It would probably motivate me more to make the effort at this time of year if I know someone else will be there.

Felt better after 15 mins chit chat and tried again slightly more succesfuly especially when I discobvered that I could water start after all !! all I had to do was TRY Hi Dro - I don't think there was enough wind to water start when you first went out, so no amount of trying would really make any ...

Thanks Kelvin - that's helpful to know. I was pointed in the direction of the dunes  Presumeably you need to buy something from the cafe to use it ..?

Hope your back improves soon - not a good week to be off the water!

Weekend 14 and 15 November

Had a great weekend of windsurfing, which I would not normally think as possible at this time of year. On Saturday I ventured to Axbridge – just to have a look and see how wild it really was, but not really expecting to go out. After sitting in the car for a long time drinking coffee, thinking it wa...

Following MartinF's comment (thanks for alerting Dro and me to this, Martin) who is officially in charge of our official day out tomorrow? Should we continue/ abort/ goes elsewhere? I've not sailed over the bridge before and would like to sail with people who know the conditions. Seems to be lack of...

I'm still keen for a bit of Cold Knapp tomorrow - hope others are too? What time is anyone planning to arrive there? My checking of tide times shows low tide at 12.00(ish) midday, and the info on locations says that it's possible to sail there 2-3 hours either side of low tide. Is this right? Am a l...

Hello - I'm thinking of it too. It's looking a few degrees cooler on that side of the water than the south coast though .. !

I may do Axbridge on Saturday as well.

November 1

Thought of going to Newton, but decided it was way too windy for my kit (and me!) for a first visit, so went to Axbridge instead. Turned out to be too windy there too for my smallest kit (4.7 and 85l) - 24 knots gusting 36 !! Hang on for a few runs until deciding it wasn't that much fun being so ove...

Portland Sunday 25th

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Fantastically windy, sunny, blue skied, warm day. Fully powered up on my 4.7 and 85 all day long. One of my best days ever there. Decided not to change the clocks last night to aide an early start - will have the extra hour tonight instead!! Loads of people out ha...

Hi Al
Have loaded the car and think I'll be on my way to Portland soon. It is pretty windy in Bristol already, and I suspect it would be one of those days when my kit is too big for WSM, but I'll be OK with it on flat water. Hope you have a good sail.
