cassette change

Post by dro »

Great excitement at Chez Timid.

The martin's reject has been rather noisy recently with strange creaking noises coming from its nether regions.Initially I thought it was me but a friend of a friend of a friend had a look at it and informed me that the spokes were loose and in fact so dreadful that I needed a new wheel.
Golly gosh I thought where can I get a red wheel? Fortunately i checked my colour bible written by saint Dulux and discovered that wheels were excempt.
So armed with my purple and red drinking vouchers, off to cycle shop I went and purchased a wheel.
Rather disappointed to discover that a wheel is what it was and nothing else.no silver thing for brakes to work on and not one funny round toothy
object that the chain caresses.

Discussed situation with Hugh Plwm who assured me he could sort it all out with an adjustable spanner and an allen key !!

Not enteirely convinced I set off on my holigay to Ortakent where I met a very nice man who introduced me to a cassette changer. Irrelevant i told him cos the reject has no stereo system.BUt it was nothing to do with a sound system but a thingy for changing the circular toothy things on the wheel.

Anyway on my return from holigay
I tackled the wheel and now the reject runs silent for the first time for 9 months BRILLLLLL
The brakes have stopped working but as Hugh Plwm sais "You can not have everything"

All the best

This sounds very exciting. It sounds like you can have everything, as long as you don't point it downhill towards the sea :)

Huw,
I find my MTB is very quiet. If it stays in the garage it never complains. It much cheaper than spending all those drinking vouchers :D

took the reject out for it's maiden spin of the new wheel
total silence : Hugh Plwm very impressed

except !!!!! for an irritating click from the pedals that was masked by the noisy wheel

How frustrating

BUT

The man on the bike has not changed and it was still a wheeze up and a wobble down

I also find not having any rear brakes makes the bike much quieter. Not to mention much faster. The silence also continues for some time after hitting the tree/rock face/ground, too.
It's an ill wind that never blows at all.

I find the silence often broken by my screams in that sort of situation.

Out again tonight

Click has now disappeared only noise now is a very loud wheeze which does not go away when the bike stops !!

Ride difficult but the cold tasteless liquid and the very large packs of crisps in the Railway Inn Nantgaredig more than compensated.
In fact so impressed repeated experience in the Cydweli rugby club (no large packs of crisps but salted peanuts helped)

Also went windsurfing with new sail lunchtime.New sail a sort of "off red" some people insist on calling it yellow ???.
Very impressed, shame about the driver

The noise of wheezing was heard yet again.Trying to find the common denominator.
Probably my watch.

Blimey, a surf & turf day, that's a bit much for a Timid. Must be Kelvin's influence. :D

I think you're bending the rules as you go along. Or is this a step down the slippery no-need-for-red slope?

Then again, I guess you'd never notice if you spilled lager on it.
It's an ill wind that never blows at all.

sad news

Post by dro »

a sad and quiet day at Chez Timid.
The reject has finally called it a day and retired to the even more untidy part of the garage.
It could take no more and gradually ceased to care, gave up trying and rattled and jammed solid.

Ah well life goes on and a big warm welcome to Timidland for the brand new
Specialised Rock Hopper special offer in beautiful ,sparkling ,radiant RED

Yabadabadoooooooo

all I need now is brand new lungs, heart and legs.
Should be available at Tescos (everything else is)

Should be great for windsurfing

The bike is dead ,long live the bike

... I was going to say the same, Graham ie shame to see sails not being used - but why not get them wet again! So when are you going to come along and sail with us, Lord T? The water is nicely warmed up now ...
