Another beery disaster for Bristol

The place to chill out & chat about anything on or even off topic. BTW, mine's a pint of something citrusy & hoppy, please.

Another beery disaster for Bristol

Post by MartinF »

Hot on the heels of the Smiles closure, is the very disturbing news that the Rose & Crown, Iron Acton, has suddenly closed :'-( . Details here.

I find it very hard to believe that there's insufficient trade to make it viable.

Looks like we need to find an alternative venue for the social on Mar 31.

Some alternative possibilities...

Lamb Inn, Iron Acton
Cross Hands, Winterbourne Down
Beaufort Arms, Hawkesbury Upton
The Buthay, Wickwar
The Dog Inn, Old Sodbury
Plough, Pilning
It's an ill wind that never blows at all.

That is a great shame - the Crown was only put on the programme for the first time last year :( . A very friendly pub, with good beer (according to Steve!).

I think it would be good to keep in the same place if possible, so the Lamb Inn looks a good option. Steve and I are volunteering to check it's suitability  (and if need be, we will also check the Cross Hands and the Beau fort and ........... ) It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it!

Not my favourite pub, but borderline ok.

I'll try to make it, but I'll be later than 7pm for sure.

Lamb Inn, Iron Acton

Well, in the Powell-like murky absence, Tony Low and myself braved a foray to the Lamb last night.

Opinions:

More of a restaurant than a drinkers' pub. Fairly small, single-room lounge, separate "committee room table" just off the main lounge - used by some committee or other on 1'st Thur each month. Adjoining room is mainly a restaurant, but the landlord's perfectly happy for us to use that if we wish.

Beers:

Regular beers are Uley Pig's Ear & Courage Best :-{L (I think he said), though neither of those were on last night. They had Draught Bass , Timothy Taylor's Landlord , & Sharp's Cornish Coaster . Better still, the Landlord & Cornish Coaster were only £2.10/pint

A range of keg beers & lagers :-{L (sorry, Hugh) which I paid no attention to.

Would be perfectly ok for a club social.

thanks for checking Martin

Do not worry about paying no attention.

They all taste the same. That's the beauty of lager

If it's there all is well .No need to analyse, compare, worry or even taste !!

If only the rest of life was that simple

Martin

Thanks for having a look.

I did ring your home phone and left a message on your mobile but apologies for the no-show anyway.

The pedigree at our local, the white hearte, went down really well.

It was hard work - especially to avoid the lager(s) & keg beers - but someone had to do it.
