Wednesday

Any questions / thoughts about specific places - particularly those outside of our *normal* area. Note that there's also the locations section on the main website with stacks if info about our area + Anglesey + Fuerteventura.

Is anyone up for a sail after work on Wednesday? The delayed Windguru forecast looks good. It's NE though, so I'm not sure where would work best.

NE is about the worst wind direction for our area. Take a look at the location finder for NE winds on the main website - http://www.bristolnomads.org.uk/wind_di ... winddir=NE
It's an ill wind that never blows at all.

By Thornbury, I'm assuming you mean Thornbury Sailing Club - which is actually at Oldbury on Severn? You need to be a member to sail there, or sail with a member, as the gate to the driveway to the club is kept locked.

Yes - I've sailed there a few times. Fantastic conditions if you only love mud in excessively large quantities. Oh, and strong currents. NEVER sail wind with current unless the wind's really howling & you can hack the conditions.

Tomorrow's forecast is Easterlies, which is cross-off from the sailing club. Not strongly recommended, but if you're ok with that, then make sure you're sailing on the rising tide.

I've had a couple of good sails at Newton in Easterlies. There's a definite wind band though, where it blows down the valley N of Ogmore & out into the bay.

Flat as a witches tit in Easterlies, mind.

Long shots in an E/NE:

Minehead? Possibly on a rising tide.

Swansea bay? Possibly around high tide

North Devon: Cross-off wave potential?

NE is pretty much dead onshore at Minehead - over by the shingle beach, though E can be good. Flat water again though - normally.

In N Devon, there's Crow Point which works in NE or E - though beware of currents taking you out of the estuary mouth.

Best place, though, has got to be Overcombe. Pity about the parking situation there now.
