dragon downhill routes
Martin , nobby said you wanted some route guides for Mountain ash downhill .
I,ll knock em up in the week for you , an i,ll try and get some pics if it stays dry/sunny.
I,ve also rode the downhill at abercarn which is about 5mins up road from cwncarn . both are good with mountain ash being a bit hard core in places , with abercard more flowing and so big drop offs but loads of off camber roots.
watch this space
small clip of one lads doing the bottom gap at mountain ash ,ps it aint as small as it looks on cam ..

Dragon Downhill part 1 .
Directions - M4 Coryton Junction to A470 (you know by the fairy castle)
Head up A470 towards Merthyr .
The first roundabout you get to turn left and head for Aberdare .
1.7miles up the road take a right into for comm---
pic of turn -
if your in right place yuo'll pass this as you turn in
Just follow the fire road up a few hunded yrs and pull in , no real car park here its a bit basic . pic
OK the course bit . - you have to cycle up the fire road or as your parked right at the bottom of course you could push up to check it out (highly recomended)
route up fire rd from park up take fire rd to left , then continue straight up
just keep going
eventually you'll go through a barrier to stop cars - keep going for a further mile and your on the halfway mark the trail decends from here to bottom through the forrest .
I.ll photo the top half later but you need to push up from here to top to see what your gona be coming down (bit severe some of it )
The bottom part of the trail here decends through heavy forrestry most of it just very narrow single track with loads of exposed roots , a log drop before exiting onto a bit more of a man made trail
pic of exit from forrest with local kid who was there aft on a hard tail willing to demo the 2 ramps as you exit
trail then sweeps down through some berms etc
view looking up to forr exit
bit further down looking back
double berms riding view coming down
then some northshore style planks
differnt angle view
view looking back up
after northshore more berms and bumpy stuff
then a sharp turn gives you a vert little run in to a gap jump over a stream
, recomend you take a look before riding theres a wooden bridge chicken run , but the ramp as you turn the bend hides the gap it just looks like a little kicker on a normal jump .
her is the shot as you turn the bend kicker to left and bridge to right .
side view
landing area
one of our crew clear the gap
trail then runs down to car park area
another shot looking from near bottom back up
very bottom up and down
that about covers the bottom end part two from top down to follow

theses plenty around machen , but they are heavily populated by tossers on crossers !
your be better off for a longer ride to go more "off piste " at cwmcarn as theres stacks of more natural trail to be had off the beaten track , including 2 other dragon downhill routes !
last little outing I took the guys on !!
