Sunday 19th. Oct

What Nomadic events are coming up. Also, if anyone's planning a non-Nomadically-arranged trip and/or looking for others to join in.

Sunday 19th. Oct

Post by Bob Iles »

Can not decide on either Portland or Hamworthy for Sunday. Portland has a better tide but may be crowded with speed week competitors.
Hamworthy will be less crowded but the tide is not so good there but should be okay being neaps.
Any one else planning on going to the south coast and if so where?

I don't think there is any issue with the tides at Hamworthy Bob unless you have a massive fin, I only start worry when they are below 1M:

Tide UK local time Height (m)
Low 01:51 0.9
High 07:37 1.7
Low 09:17 1.6
High 10:59 1.7
Low 14:16 1
High 19:33 1.7
Low 21:45 1.5
High 23:19 1.6

A warm and windy weekend predicted :D .Hamworthy looks a really good option for Sunday at the moment with good wind and tides, but also tempted by Newton, Porthcawl for some 'local' waves.
Going to Brean tomorrow, since WSM shut.

Saturday High Tide at Brean approx 15:30
Justin - what time you aim getting there?

Can't decide - Portland or Hamworthy for Sunday.
No matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers.

Hi Keith
Planning on getting to Brean (the second beach parking, not Berrow Sands which is first) by midday. Plan to sail from the furthest South bit (away from Brean Down) by the wooden bollards (toilet nearby, normal sailing area for Brean locals).

Never been to Hamworthy so keen to give it a go on Sunday. Wind still looking good.
If anyone else decides to go what time are you planning to get there?

Hi Justin

If you see this before you leave.....

Are you meeting at the same beach car park at Brean, that we sailed from earlier this year, when there was no wind? (Or was that Berrow Sands?)

Hope to see you there (if I find the correct car park)

Gren,
I am planning on leaving Bristol at 7.30am assuming I do not drink too much wine tonight. But stopping for a fry up breakfast on the way. So would expect to get there about 11am. I drive a white VW camper and have a Nomads sticker in the windscreen.

Hi Bob,

I'll be in a black Renault Trafic with no distinguishing features, heading off from Almondsbury.
Early start with a breakfast stop sounds like a great plan.
Do you have a particular cafe in mind?

Bren,
There is a service area on a roundabout just this side of Warminster. It is the only place I know on route.
See you at Hamworthy.

OK car is packed and forecast still looks good. Given there is some interest in Hamworthy I'll probably be heading there tomorrow in my black focus estate. Arrival time will depend on time I get up in the morning. I would expect sometime between 10-12. If the car park is full, then wait a bit as the morning dog walkers normally move on at regular intervals.
