Warm Weekend Wind?

Postby Justin » Thu Jan 19, 2012 20:34

Anyone planning sailing this weekend? Forecast 10'C+ and GPS speed record breaking winds for Portland  . Local wind too, but tides difficult.

Yes yes YES! :D Both days I reckon.
Have new thermal rash vest so should be toasty I reckon! No GPS tho so we'll never know how much I beat you by!
Tides are a bit upside down at Portland but probably manageable, especially with the size fins you and Lorraine get away with.
I may possibly end up meeting a friend to sail somewhere else, not quite sure yet, but the hot showers at Portland are calling quite loudly at the mo!
Keep me posted?

WSM doable Fri/Sat I reckon, though Sat looking windier. Not sure I want to go further afield. :)

I'm thinking it may be too warm for me at Portland tomorrow :) ... so I "may" take to the cooler waters of Axbridge, seeing as it is closer, AND I can sail end-to-end without falling in :D , AND there are hot showers etc etc.

I'd be up for a session at Axbridge. What time would you venture out?

Speed sailing at Portland, mmm!

I hope I can go but it is doubtful at the moment.
I have a pulled muscle in my lower back which makes bending and twisting very painful and therefore waterstarts not top of my list of things I want to be doing at the moment.
I will see how my back is in the morning before I definitely say no.
My GPS will be on charge just in case.

Remember Justin it is the taking part that counts, my money is on Rachael.

Hi Mihali

If I do go to Axbridge, I'd probably get there around 11.00ish, and aim to be out on the water (after a lot of faffing) 12.00 - 2.00 ish ie warmest part of the day :D . Will make a decision in the morning.

Hope everyone else has a good sail, wherever they end up.

I'm doing Portland tomorrow. Dead right Ian, it's the taking part that counts, but it looks like there may not be any other Nomads there so I will have to see if I can borrow a GPS just so I can hold the 2012 club record if only for a day! ;)

Sunday might be Poole, not sure yet - so please all report back from Sat!

Have a good one :D

Almost packed, so looks like I'm off to Axbridge :D . Much windier than I was expecting, so anticipating a wild/ gusty/ wavey session

So see you up there Mihali, and anyone else. I'll probably get there 11.15 - 11.30 ... ish

Axbridge - stonking whilst I was on my 5.5  :D ; stopped stonking when I changed down to the 4.7

A fair few Nomads around - Keith, Mihali, two Martins. Nice to get out, although too short a sailing session (for me!). Realise I could do with two 4.0m masts!

Not stonking enough at WSM today. 5.7 & 96 just about enough for a bit until wind dropped leaving me underpowered and stuck in the shorebreak for a bit, again. Very onshore so tricky getting back to launch spot. Some nice waves though. Should've changed up but decided to tough it out instead, which was the wrong decision. Anyway, quite a few out so it was a sociable afternoon at the beach. The only other Nomad out was the newly appointed Dark Lord.:D

So a half decent session in the end, but better than yesterday when the wind died completely leaving me with a long walk back from the near the pier. Thanks to Pete and Zara for coming to check up on me and then carrying my board back! :D
