Gower - Horton

Back to location finder

General details:

Two locations on the same beach- the other being Port Eynon - but a bit of a drive round from one to the other.

For windsurfing, this beach is probably the most versatile in the Gower (and the most popular). If you are not fully into wavesailing this should offer you the most user friendly conditions. If you are, head for Llangennith (especially SE force 2+ with a big swell).

The waves are biggest at the far East end of the beach, with the heaviest, peeling waves just by the small cove/beach called "The Sands". The waves get gradually smaller across the bay towards Port Eynon.

The best resident sailors in the Gower are Ian Pearce, Matt Howard and James Cox (May '03); they are very helpful but most of the locals should be also able to help.

Sailing is easiest at low tide as high tide shore break and wind can get tricky at times.
