Can you help?
I did my first big jump today and being somewhat out of control broke off my lovely carbon seat post. Does anyone have any magazine reviews on seat posts please (The shaft size is 27mm.)
The moment was caught on camera, so no doubt a photo will follow shortly.
I assume this will not be a cheap purchase and goes with the rear hanger and gashed tyre to create a threesome.

Depends on whether you want carbon on not. Personally I would steer clear unless you don't plan on anything too adventurous.
Easton seem to have a good range as do RaceFace but the benchmark seems to be Thompson. Not cheap though.

I've currently got one on my Enduro and on my wifes Inbred and they seem to stand up well. My previous Truvativ bent following a heavy landing.
Cheers,
Carl

cheap solution
You can have my son's old metal one if you want
proven quality, already lasted 18 years and I am sure some rubbing with a brillo pad will get rid of most of the rust.
In fact you can have it for nothing if I can remove it from the bike.
That is, if I can remember where on the river bank I threw it last year.
Do not worry leave it to me I am sure I can find it.
Because you have been so unlucky I will even paint it red with my magic paint.
So all's well that ends well ,wipe those tears away

What do you mean not ENOUGH wind ?
You need to be REALLY precise with measuring the OD of your seat post. Ideally use a micrometer or digital vernier caliper. Around that size, you can get 26.8mm; 27mm; 27.2mm; 27.4mm. I wouldn't trust my old thumbwheel caliper & steel rule to measure to 0.5mm, never mind 0.2mm.
Next Month's (May) What MB spake thus in their seat post review (note "Review", not "Test"!! I've omitted the ones that don't have seat posts in your size (ish)) FWIW...

It's an ill wind that never blows at all.
Thanks guys, and Adrian, who returned my call
Hugh and I think along similar lines. I did try and nick my son's seat post to ride today, but after much arguing it was the wrong size.
Looks like it is time to clear the cobwebs off my wallet
I have a picture of the moment it all happened, but the system does not like me today, so it will remain hidden from view.

I regret mentioning this now!
The system has taken great exception to the picture of my backside breaking the seat post......and it was not that good after all.
The file is 28Kb, so not sure why. I sometimes have problems uploading the maps, so maybe I should not take it personally
The new seat post, the highly rated Thomson Elite, looks smart tho'. I am trying to make a guarantee claim on the other one, but will be very surprised if I am successful. If I am lucky, there will be a £100 plus carbon post going for a song.
